Bayview Park Hotel in Manila, Philippines

Bayview Park Hotel sits on Roxas Boulevard, Manila's grand waterfront avenue, in a building that looks like it was designed by someone who really believes in the power of a straight line. It's a 3-star hotel with 283 rooms spread over 15 floors, which means it's big enough to get lost in but not so big that you need a map. The lobby probably has that specific Manila smell — a mix of air conditioning, floor wax, and the faint salt breeze from Manila Bay. The kind of place where the staff have been working there for years and know exactly how to handle a tired traveler at 2am. The guest rating of 8.6 from nearly 15,000 reviews suggests they're doing something right, even if the official description reads like it was written by a committee that really loves the word 'flawless'.

You're on Roxas Boulevard, which means you're on the edge of Manila Bay. The sunsets here are famous — the kind that make you forget the traffic for a moment. Across the street, there's a long stretch of parkland where locals jog and fly kites. Walk north for about 15 minutes and you hit the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Star City amusement park. South takes you towards the airport, but you probably don't want to walk that. The nearest train station is Taft Avenue, about a 10-minute tricycle ride away. There's a 7-Eleven somewhere nearby because there's always a 7-Eleven in Manila.
